His public service career has spanned development, planning, financial, legislative, and managerial roles, predominantly with the City and County of San Francisco. As Assistant Director in the City Administrator’s Office, Mr. Van de Water helped create the City of San Francisco’s ten-year capital plan and oversaw voter approval of nearly $2 billion dollars in successful General Obligation bond-funded projects. As Senior Project Manager in the Mayor’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development, Mr. Van de Water led four of the City of San Francisco’s highest-profile public-private partnerships and secured events of national and international significance.

Mr. Van de Water has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Studies from Bowdoin College, and a Master’s of Public Policy from the Goldman School of Public Policy at UC Berkeley.

“Adam’s extensive experience will be an invaluable asset to the City of Livermore as we continue our economic growth. He is a creative decision-maker who has experience leading diverse teams and improving neighborhoods and City services,” City Manager Roberts stated. “He will be a great addition to the City’s Executive Team.”

Adam is married with two daughters and has lived in Oakland for the last 16 years. He is an avid cyclist who has participated in the Wente Vineyards bicycling race five times, but has not yet won. His Livermore experiences also extend to the performing arts, as his father-in-law performed in the Flying Dutchman at the Bankhead Theatre. “I am honored to have been selected as the new Director of the Office of Innovation and Economic Development and look forward to working with the community to further enhance the unique and diverse quality of life in Livermore,” stated Mr. Van de Water.

Adam will begin his new role on January 7, 2019.
